George Pataki on Monday posted his most successful six months of stockpiling campaign money ever, all but assuring the 2002 governor's race will go down as the most expensive in New York history. Pataki, a Republican running for a third term, raised $12.8 million between Jan. 12 and July 11, according to reports his campaign filed with the state. That's six times the amount raised by state Comptroller H.

Carl McCall, a Democrat, and four times the figure for another Democrat, former federal Housing Secretary Andrew Cuomo. That means Pataki has raised nearly $34 million overall and spent $10.1 million in a contest not close to the home stretch. ALBANY BUREAU YANCEY ROY SEARCHING FOR CLUES With four months still to go before Election Day, Pataki is sitting on $23.3 million in the bank. By contrast, he spent less than that, $20 million, on his entire 1998 campaign. Cuomo has $6.4 million in his campaign chest; McCall $5.6 million.

The two face each other in a Sept. 10 primary to determine who takes on Pataki. The governor isn't the only candidate on a pace to spend big. Rochester billionaire B. Thomas Golisano has deposited $50 million of his own fortune into his campaign chest and plans to launch a "heavy radio and TV presence" by the weekend, an aide said.

Golisano is trying to gain the nomination of two minor parties, the Conservative and Independence, whom Pataki is also courting. Golisano has run twice before on the Independence line; his best showing was 8 percent in 1998. But he's promising a more aggressive campaign this time, said Golisano spokesman Erick Mullen. "We'll spend all of this," said Mullen, referring to the $50 million deposit. So far Golisano has spent about $2 million, about half on obtaining petition signatures for the primaries.

This contest will eclipse the record $40 million gubernatorial candidates combined to spend four years ago, said Marist College pollster Lee Miringoff. Born November 15, 1923, the son of Ruby Merklinger and Eugene Roland Galvin, he was husband of Ruth Van Buren for 50 years and a life long resident of Monroe County. After graduating from West High School he attended Syracuse Univeristy, Class of 1950 earning a degree in Journalism. A true Orangeman and member of the Golf Team he was an avid fan of both SU basketball and football.

While at Syracuse he wrote for the school newspaper at the time Rod Serling was editor. During WWII he served in the U.S. Navy as a communications specialist on the USS Babcock, a liberty ship, in the Atlantic. John worked for many years for the Gannett News Service and became the Science Medical Editor for the Democrat and Union. His storeis ranged from coverage of early space flights at Cape Canaveral to heart transplants.

He left the paper in 1968 to become Information Officer for the Monroe County Health Department, where he stayed until retiring in 1990. The man demanded and received an unspecified amount of cash, locked the employees in the vault and fled through the door he used to enter the bank. Man badly hurt in gasoline fire PENN YAN A Yates County man remained hospitalized Monday from burns he received when gasoline he had been using to light a brush fire exploded in his face. The accident happened about 9:15 p.m. Sunday at the home of Richard A. Rodas, 25, of 818 Anthony Road, Penn Yan. Rodas suffered first- and second-degree burns to 95 percent of his body, said Yates County sheriff's deputies.

Rodas was flown by Mercy Flight Central helicopter to Strong Memorial Hospital, where he was in guarded condition in the intensive care unit Monday evening. Rescuers search for lake diver Wayne County sheriff's divers searched Lake Ontario unsuccessfully for a missing diver Monday. The search was near West Port Road in Wolcott. who had been diving recreationally disappeared about half a mile northeast of the entrance to Port Bay, said Coast Guard Petty Officer George Smith. The Coast Guard was called Department has found 94 cases of the food-borne illness that came from the club on Pixley Road in Gates.

Francis Xavier Church, 34 Theresa St. MT. MORRIS: Formerly of 726 King Street, Olean, NY and Scottsville, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 in the Cuba Memorial Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility. Born October 9, 1918 in Mt. Morris, NY, he was the son of the late John and Mary Nancy Andolina.

On August 30, 1941, in Mt. Morris he died May He was a Staff Sgt. married the former, Carolyn F. Peraino, who Veteran of World War I1, serving in the 750th Tank Battalion and participated in battles in the Ardennes, Central Europe and Rhineland during the Battle of the Bulge. Later while stationed in Germany he was selected one of the courtroom guards serving at the Nuremberg War Crimes Trail.

Mr. Andolina worked as a punch press operator at Rochester Products, Div. of General Motors until his retirement 1983. Surviving are a daughter, Janet (Donald) Haskins of Olean, NY: a brother, Frank (Rose) Andolina of Perry, NY; and 4 sisters, Ann Fusco of Olean, Rose Leone of Rochester, Ida Pellicane of Mt. Morris, and Margaret Sevcik of Wellsville, NY; and a stepson, Todd Richardson of Scottsville, NY; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was predeceased by a son, John Andolina; 2 sisters, Mary Andolina, Francis Scorsone and 2 brothers, Michael Andolina and Antonio Andolina.
